Films, interiors, and other things that inspire me
I often find myself deeply inspired by nature and the world around me, though I realise I do go on about it quite a bit. The other day, I watched Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and the magnificent sets and exquisite costumes sparked a strong desire for rich velvets and luxurious silks to paint on and drape throughout my studio. However, for now, I’m working with layers of deep reds, warm oranges, and vibrant pinks in these new paintings, combined with my usual touches of gold. There’s a persistent little voice in my head whispering, “For God’s sake, be tasteful and understated,” I’m not quite sure why it’s there, and at the moment, I’m choosing to ignore it. I remember reading an article in Vogue from the early 2000s that inspired a whole series of quite unconventional and rather ugly paintings based on a glorious pair of boots. To my surprise, I actually sold a few.
