
.I’ve been thinking about how to explain my work. Mostly people tell me what they see and how they interpret it, then ask me how I do it… not why.
I was talking to a friend the other day and they said they didn’t really understand it.
My paintings are inspired by both the world around me and the world within. Light, space, and landscape becomes a reflection of inner stillness and feeling. I don’t want to copy what I see, I aim to capture how it feels to be there. I like the phrase “As above so below” which makes me think of our internal and external worlds.. mediation, daydreaming, manifestations, prayers… whatever you want to call them.. and then the other physical stuff.. the spiritual and the mundane, they are all connected.
The origin of that (I believe) is “That which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above.” - Hermes Trismegistus, The Emerald Tablet.
I’ll probably come back to this… it’ll be an ongoing process as I struggle to put it into words
